America Swings Hard Right

Surprise surprise! Mayor elect Bill De Blasio, who supported violent leftists in the 1980s and campaigned on liberal issues such as overturning the stop-and-frisk policy in New York City, has named William Bratton as his police chief. William Bratton was Rudy Giuliani's police chief when he took office in 1994.

The New York Times is OK with that. Hail to the Police Chief

The main result of aggressive police tactics in New York has been to gentrify the city. This isn't a political swing to the right, it is a tactical shift. Liberals in America's major cities, from New York, to LA, to Washington, D.C., are increasingly implementing police policies that they would call fascist, racist and evil if they were the policy of choice in Alabama or Mississippi. There is still the right-left gap in America, but America's left, because it is in power, is able to behave like the "far right" and get away with it. The net result over time, however, will be that police tactics across the nation move to the right.
