China lifted retail gasoline and diesel prices by 300 yuan a ton starting February 8, in a bid to spur refineries to step up production.China still uses price controls in the energy market, so there's room for more increases. More likely, economic weakness will ease pricing pressures.
The increase, the first time in 10 months, is equivalent to 0.22 yuan a liter on average for gasoline and 0.26 yuan a liter for diesel, the National Development & Reform Commission said on its website February 7.
