Coal Runs to the Full Fib Extension

The fruits of green labor. Ther 1970s was inflationary, but you could buy stuff. This inflation is going to be more like a Soviet Union grocery store. You will be lucky to find what you need, no matter what price you're willing to pay. That's before considering any potential war with China that cuts off a massive slice of the U.S. supply chain.

Greens BTFOd Again: Solar Increases Emissions, Toxic Air Pollution

The West has tapped a vast well of stupidity.

North State Journal: Duke Energy application points finger at solar for increased pollution

Duke spokeswoman Kim Crawford confirmed that increased solar power on the state’s electric grid is increasing emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx), a dangerous air pollutant. She said that reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions could also reverse if current solar growth continues without policy changes.

Climate advocates blame increases in manmade gases like CO2 for global warming and have promoted solar power as environmentally clean.

An increase in emissions triggers the need to rethink national energy policy, experts say.

Crawford provided measurements showing that even on sunny days — when solar power is at its maximum output — more NOx pollution is released into the air than would occur if no solar electricity were used and natural gas were used instead.

People working on real, tangible, specific problems are doing good work. Ocean acidification, micro plastics and so on, conservationists saving natural habitats. The focus on climate change and alternative energy has sucked up money and attention though, and here is yet another piece of evidence that they are giant scams.

If solar is indeed increasing emissions, then my confidence in "madmade climate change" being a 100-percent false rises above 90-percent confidence. This would be the killshot for me because my chief complaint about solar was that it doesn't create enough energy, and not enough reliable energy. The switch to solar didn't make sense because it was going to increase energy costs and harm the economy, when nuclear would lower energy costs, help the economy and also eliminates emissions:

That’s because traditional power plants — including cleaner burning natural gas plants — must scale back electric generation to accommodate solar energy surging onto the system when the sun rises, and power back up when the sun sets and solar energy dissipates. That starting and stopping reduces efficiency and incapacitates emission control devices, increasing pollutant levels.
If alterative energy increases emissions, which it obviously does with Germany talking about how a return to coal may be necessary, how come the people making computer models didn't know that? If you have climate models predicting emissions and you think Man is making the emissions, then you need to model human behavior in response to various policies. They don't do that accurately though, in fact it looks like they have the sign wrong. The next question is, what other variables are they screwing up, weighting wrong, assuming is geometric or arithmetic when it is vice versa, or ignoring entirely?

Man does clearly impact the environment. Concrete-coated cities have their own microclimates. Dams and manmade lakes, ocean pollution, air pollutions and so on exist. But when an entire movement and industries are built on computer models selling the climate change narrative and those very same people push a solution that makes things worse, not better, then one must call the entire effort into question.

It was a joke in the 1990s that greens were watermelons because international socialists who lost their sinecures and/or credibility when the Soviet Union collapsed moved into environmentalism. Soviet central planning and Green economics with solutions like wind and solar grew from the same intellectual branch. Many people were surprised by the Soviet collapse, so they are again as Western economies are being seriously hobbled by the same line of thinking.

The goal has always been rip roaring inflation that destroys developed economies. Nations and peoples can only be made equal in misery.

Don't Build a Megalopolis in a Desert

California has been a desert for most of its history. The aberration is the climate that has existed the past few hundred years. In terms of policy, there has been zero consideration of water supply.

Yahoo: California regulator rejects desalination plant despite historic drought

California regulators on Thursday rejected a $1.4 billion desalination plant on environmental grounds, dealing a setback to Governor Gavin Newsom, who had supported the project as a partial solution for the state's sustained drought.

The California Coastal Commission voted 11-0 to reject the proposal by Poseidon Water, controlled by the infrastructure arm of Canada's Brookfield Asset Management, to build the plant on a low-lying coastal site at Huntington Beach, near the town of Costa Mesa, about 30 miles (50 km) south of Los Angeles.

The plant was designed to convert Pacific Ocean water into 50 million gallons (189.3 million liters) of drinking water a day.

That is enough for 400,000 people, but the plant would use a process that staff experts at the commission said would devastate marine life and expose the plant to future risk of sea level rise while producing expensive water too costly for low-income consumers.

The state isn't in a sustained drought. It is in a desert. There isn't going to be any low cost solution.

Maybe this plant was a bad idea in this location though. The state is dumb enough to have that high-speed rail boondoggle ongoing, so it's better to assume policy is like an episode of Three Stooges with bad ideas all around. Looking at it from a distance and knowing what I know of the state, Californians don't want a plant on their coast. A large component of environmetalism there (and everywhere to be fair) is NIMBYism. Perhaps they should negotiate with Mexico for a plant there and pipe desalinbated water into the United States.

Putting a climate change label on this post because California's climate is changing, albeit predictably and not because of anything man has done. The water shortage is manmade though, because California didn't plan for it. Instead, they did as they are doing with electric cars, they ramped up demand (via mass migration across the border) while at the same time supply of water was in decline.

Assume Everything is a Psyop

Scary Mommy 2020: From A Doctor: We Need To Talk About Gas Stoves And Indoor Air Pollution

E&E 2022: N.Y. governor backs nation’s first statewide gas ban

Scary Mommy 2022: Researchers Are Ripping The Gas Stoves Out Of Their Houses For Their Kids’ Health

The anti-nuclear movement caused the most climate destruction over the past 40 years by permanently damaging nuclear power. From the same well of stupidity came anti-coal, anti-oil and anti-gas movements, some of them funded by Russia (the irony is *chef's kiss*). Economic mistakes of the past 50 years were repeated. Nw teh two are fusing into food and energy supply problems.

The big mistake America made was psyopping itself on equality. People are equal to the extent we all have a right to be treated equally under the law and to make our own choices. You do not let stupid, emotional and irrational people have political power though. Since everyone is irrational to some degree, political power should be strictly limited as the Founders intended. Instead, modern American went "communist" and lets people who will rip stoves out of their homes, wear useless cloth masks and fall for fake and lame "Red Scares" make decisions for all of society. Or more to the point, these people allow the modern authoritarian technocracy have a fig leaf of legitimacy.

Who is this woman? She's the head of the Ministry of Truth:
DHS is standing up a new Disinformation Governance Board to coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security, focused specifically on irregular migration and Russia. Nina Jankowicz will head the board as executive director. She previously was a disinformation fellow at the Wilson Center, advised the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry as part of the Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship and oversaw Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute.
If you are red-pilled you see that resume and immediately know you're dealing with a professional liar. All the worst people in the American govt have been involved with "helping" Ukraine and working against Russia the past 10 years or so. Now they've created something straight out of 1984 to silence all political dissent.

Climate Lockdowns Coming

The Guardian: Heatwaves at both of Earth’s poles alarm climate scientists
Startling heatwaves at both of Earth’s poles are causing alarm among climate scientists, who have warned the “unprecedented” events could signal faster and abrupt climate breakdown.

Temperatures in Antarctica reached record levels at the weekend, an astonishing 40C above normal in places.

At the same time, weather stations near the north pole also showed signs of melting, with some temperatures 30C above normal, hitting levels normally attained far later in the year.

At this time of year, the Antarctic should be rapidly cooling after its summer, and the Arctic only slowly emerging from its winter, as days lengthen. For both poles to show such heating at once is unprecedented.

Unprecedented means unrecorded. There are times when the Northern USA is warmer in winter than the Southern USA, does that mean Earth is flipping over or the climate is inverting? Of course whether this is a fluke, or a trend, and whether is it serious or not is overshadowed by the fact that scientists are paid to create terror among the public. Terror that can translate into totalitarian, authoritarian global government.
“The warming of the Arctic and Antarctic is cause for concern, and the increase in extreme weather events – of which these are an example – is a cause for concern as well,” he said. “The models have done a good job projecting the overall warming, but we’ve argued that extreme events are exceeding model projections. These events drive home the urgency of action.”
Yes, these headlines certainly do make me think we need some urgent action, but not in the direction they are intending.

The Green Scam

Nuclear, coal and oil are cheap. The latter two cannot be bought by ESG funds, while some can buy nuclear.

ZH: Yachts To Be Exempt From EU's Carbon Pricing Plan

If there is anyone still confused why ESG, and the entire "green" movement is one giant, boiling cauldron of lies, hypocrisy and fraud, read on.

Last summer, we reported that the European Commission - that murder of career bureaucrats - has proposed exempting private jets, the one most polluting form of transportation, from the planned EU jet fuel tax. A draft indicated that the tax would be phased-in for passenger flights, including ones that carry cargo. Private jets will enjoy an exemption through classification of "business aviation" as the use of aircraft by firms for carriage of passengers or goods as an "aid to the conduct of their business", if generally considered not for public hire. It gets better: a further exemption is given for "pleasure" flights whereby an aircraft is used for "personal or recreational" purposes not associated with a business or professional use.

This is odd because a recent report found that private-jet CO2 emissions in Europe rose by 31% between 2005 and 2019, with flights to popular destinations up markedly during summer holiday seasons. So if Europe was truly concerned about curbing CO2 emissions it would ostensibly go after some of the biggest culprits... but no.

Of course, since it is mostly billionaires and the ultra wealthy that fly private, and these same billionaires and ultra wealthy tend to be exempt from regulations (which are usually written by politicians that the ultra rich have previously bribed or bought) that apply to the rest of the peasantry, this was hardly a huge surprise.

Which is why we doubt that the latest news showing just how pervasive the "green" hypocrisy is, will also come as a surprise.

The entire green movement is, for anyone who remembers the Cold War, a communist scam. The pro-Soviet, anti-American forces dumped their red for green in the 1990s. The same goals of global government morphed into climate activism and neosocialism, the control of corporations and private citizens through private forces. Twitter and Google are the fruit of these labors. The reason why China and the West look so similar is that the Western ruling class is aping the more formal socialism of the CCP. The Chinese communists do it far better because they're not at war with themselves for starters, but also hit "peak insanity" during the Cultural Revolution and have been moving away from pure ideology ever since. In contrast, the Western ruling class, the Baizuos, become more insane by the day. If "climate change" includes everything in the movement, including all the propaganda, then it is 99-percent false. There is human impact on climate (including concrete), but it can be solved with nuclear energy and some regulations. At the heart of the green movement as it exists today is pagan, anti-God, anti-human nature worship and Satanic forces that had previously assembled under the banner of communism.

Baizuo World is Collapsing

Now New England may face enforced blackouts this winter.

Power Mag:ISO-NE Warns Fuel Supply Issues May Threaten Winter Power System Reliability

New England faces a precarious fuel supply risk that could necessitate emergency actions if a severe prolonged cold snap hits the region this winter, ISO New England (ISO-NE) has warned.

The regional grid operator expects power demand will peak at 19,710 MW during average winter weather conditions of 10F, but if temperatures plunge below 5F, demand could jump to 20,329 MW. Peak projections from the 2021-2022 winter season assessment are about 2% lower than last year’s forecast, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a milder than average winter, it said. “New England’s all-time winter peak record was set during a January 2004 cold snap when electricity usage reached 22,818 MW,” the independent system operator (ISO) noted.

However, as Gordon van Welie, president and CEO of ISO New England, told reporters on Dec. 6, the grid operator is cautiously watching three “variables that could put the region in a more precarious position than past winters and force the ISO take emergency actions, up to and including controlled power outages.”

...The first variable involves “how much natural gas will be available for gas generators during cold weather,” van Welie said. The region is prone to natural gas pipeline constraints when it experiences simultaneous demand for natural gas for heating homes and operating gas-fired power plants, he noted. “Heating customers, who paid for the pipeline infrastructure, are served first and the remaining gas is available for electric plants. When pipeline gas isn’t available, or when the price of gas is very high, the region uses other fuel sources, such as oil or liquefied natural gas [LNG],” he said.

New England has blocked new pipelines that could bring gas from shale production in nearby Pennsylvania and New York. There are gas shortages in some areas that prevent business expansion, as in no new restaurants because the gas company can't supply. Here's one such story from five yars ago: Columbia Gas, Berkshire Gas working to end hook-up moratoriums in Franklin, Hampshire counties. Now the region is at the point where power may be cut. Back to Power Mag:
A more pronounced concern is that ISO-NE’s grid has changed at a rapid pace owing to shifting patterns in energy use and a rapidly changing resource mix to meet increased clean energy targets set by individual New England states. Variable energy resources, including of wind and solar, and natural gas generators, with operational and infrastructure limitations on their energy production, have replaced much of the region’s baseload nuclear, coal, and oil resources that had on-site fuel storage.
The lights are going out in Baizuo-dominated Clownworld. Will the public turn on the Baizuo or will the Baizuo successfully psyop them into blaming it on racism, climate change, oil companies, covid, or some newly invented boogeyman?

China Goes Nuclear

If this plan was actually implemented in the short-term, China's economy would immediately enter recession. That isn't going to happen. They've wisely pushed the date so far out that their buildout of nuclear power will hit their goals fro them.

iFeng: 中共中央、国务院:严控煤电、钢铁、电解铝、水泥等高碳项目投资

Business Standard: China targets more than 80% non-fossil energy use by 2060

China aims to have non-fossil energy consumption exceed 80% of its total mix by 2060, when the world’s second-biggest economy plans to be carbon neutral, according to guidelines published by the official Xinhua News Agency.

The measures are part of China’s larger plan for achieving peak carbon emissions and reaching net-zero by 2060, Xinhua said on Sunday. It reiterated the government’s climate goals for 2025 and 2030 and vowed to accelerate a decline in China’s coal use.

China's Carbon Neutral Plan Has Northeast Flummoxed, One City Shuts Off All Street Lights

iFeng: “一刀切”切痛北方重碳省 业内人士:要想完成指标,恐怕只有停产 ("One size fits all" painful to the industry insiders of the Northern Heavy Carbon Province: To complete the target, I am afraid that the only way to stop production)
At present, the oil market is on the rise, and all regions are producing at full capacity. But a coal-to-liquid company in the north was deserted, and the leaders and employees were sad, and even sent a letter to the head office-requesting to stop production .

"Three times a week, the development and reform, energy, statistics and other departments have repeatedly requested and repeatedly monitored that our total energy consumption in the first quarter of this year was reduced by 50,000 tons of standard coal year-on-year. However, in the first quarter of last year, affected by the epidemic, the company basically had no production. The consumption base is small, and it is difficult to complete the task of reducing consumption." Zhang Heng (a pseudonym), the general manager of the coal-to-liquid branch, said, "Some cadres bluntly said,'It is impossible to complete it, it can be stopped.'"

The experience of this company is not alone. During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, some provinces and regions failed to complete the national energy consumption "dual control" indicator task, and some were interviewed and notified by the National Development and Reform Commission because of their low rankings. Since the second half of 2020, many provinces and autonomous regions have issued a series of policies to fully deploy the "14th Five-Year Plan" and "dual control" of energy consumption in 2021. Some have decomposed energy consumption "dual control" task indicators step by step from provinces to cities and counties, to enterprises, and the relevant departments and enterprises feel more pressure.

Compared with the suspension of production, the more serious is the withdrawal. Recently, 11 companies in an industrial park in the north were included in the withdrawal because the submerged arc furnace was below 25,000 kVA. "Some companies have not even violated any laws and regulations. They are forced to withdraw only in order to meet the requirements of "dual control" of energy consumption." The cadre in charge of related work in the industrial park said, "11 companies are facing withdrawing, and behind it is the employment problem of at least 1,000 people. The park and enterprises are in a difficult situation, and there is currently no compensation plan."

The tentacles of "dual control" also extend to daily life. In the past few days, Ms. Wang, who lives in a county in Northeast China, was afraid to go out at night because the local government requested that “all street lights in the county be turned off all day”, “building lighting, business and business plaque lighting, LED screens and street lights The light box is closed all day." Ms. Wang was very helpless: “It’s not safe to drive and walk. The night economy that has finally developed has also stopped. There are fewer people doing square dancing and exercising. It’s really bad.”

The reporter encountered the situation of elevator shutdown many times during the interview. A five-storey government building originally had 4 elevators in operation. In order to reduce consumption, all the elevators were shut down. Cadres and employees climbed the stairs all day, and had to endure the building's "centralized power outage for one hour" at noon. A cadre bluntly said: "The'dual control' of energy consumption is a good thing, but if even basic work and life are disturbed, problems will arise."

It's a long article, this is only a small bit of it. You can get the gist of the story though: officials don't know how to hit carbon targets and they're shutting down the economy in the face of what seem like impossible targets.

We Have Time for Transition to Nuclear Power

The Ethical SKeptic: The Climate Change Alternative We Ignore (to Our Peril)
Now follow this experiment to its next inferential step. From June 2018 through to the end of 2020, humans emitted significantly lower CO2 than in the most recent years. One can observe this in the chart to the right which indicates lower emissions during the June 2018 through end of 2020 timeframe.12 As we saw in the previous chart in Observation 1A, this was due unequivocally to China’s reaction to something which caused it to shut down industrial activity during that 2.5 year duration. Despite this sustained exceptional lower trend in CO2 emissions, curiously the Earth also happened to experience its hottest non El Niño year on record in 2020.13

This was explained away with no study nor ability to forecast whatsoever, as stemming from the following: “global shutdowns related to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic reduced particulate air pollution in many areas, allowing more sunlight to reach the surface and producing a small but potentially significant warming effect.”14 The credibility of climate models was severely strained with this form of ad hoc rescue. If 2.5 years of lower CO2 emissions also causes global temperatures to rise, then what are we doing? And why did we not know that this would occur in advance? Our models should have indicated this through ergodicity, yet they did not. We are broaching pseudo-theory with such an apologetic method. A theory which quickly explains everything a posteriori without any relevant research, likely explains nothing.

The inference to be drawn from Observations 1, 1A, 1B, 2, and 3 above supports the construct (pre-hypothesis) that something else may be driving the production of CO2 and methane emissions into the atmosphere aside from simply man. That something else is

a. a strong independent input variable which is already hotter than historical without external impetus,

b. functions independent of carbon and methane emissions, and

c. is at the same time causing the planet’s oceans to warm at a rate unachievable through man’s activity alone.

This heat is behaving like a strong independent input variable and not constrained-dependent output result. If climate heat is a constrained-dependent output, and we have sufficient enough grasp of its dynamics to begin to blame specific companies, peoples and countries for climate change, then our models necessarily should have predicted this 2020 temperature rise phenomenon as well. Yet our models were not successful in doing so. This is inductive (heteroductive) inference to be sure, but is also strong enough in terms of inferential merit to introduce plurality. Something is wrong in the epistemic sauce, and the 2020 Covid-19 experiment demonstrated this in spades. We are now compelled to introduce plurality, no matter how many fake skeptics tantrums this serves to elicit.

The next question along such a critical path of inquiry would be, from whence does this ‘already hotter’ heat derive? We believe that the answer can be drawn as inference from the next six critical path and deductive observational elements, which follow.

If the above is true, and if the astrophysicists are right, the Sun will offset much Man's impact on warming during the coming Solar Cycle. This would provide time for a slow-but-concerted shift towards nuclear power. Instead, the ruling class wants to wield Green ideology for a far more destructive "lockdown" of the economy in the name of climate change. The inflation unleashed by their policies will start wars and political revolutions. There isn't enough raw material supply for a rapid shift away from internal combustion engines and fossil fuels. The electric grid cannot and will not scale fast enough, moreover under the name of Green ideology, the ruling class is also retarding electricity grids will alternative energy and "green" regulations that make risk of catastrophic failure higher. Electricity prices will soar along with general inflation. A planned disaster is being orchestrated by those in power because they cannot maintain power without crushing economic competitors. This goes for USA vs China, but also internally between the less than elite ruling class and the rising elite in emerging industries that operate outside of the government's direct political control.

Totalitarianism is Coming Back, Greens Want to Measure How Much Sin is in Each Product

Totalitarianism is coming back via blockchain technology because it gives central planners a new lease on life. A major drawback of central planning (and socialism) is the lack of economic information. If everything is on-chain, however, there's far more information for central planners. In their minds, the information problem may be solved. With body sensors on the way, it's possible for the state to monitor the location of all citizens. If the state says to exercise for 30 minutes per day and you do not, it could punish you. If it has total location data, it could regulate daily interactions. A state like Iran could punish anyone who doesn't go to mosque. A feminist or chivalrous society could fine men who do, or do not, hold the door for a woman. It could get into micromanagement of individual behavior and tax or fine people for violating the state's mandate. These are extreme examples, but many companies are already working on implementing green religion into the economy by tracking the carbon emissions of commodities. This video is cued to the relevant discussion:
Technology can be used for good or ill. It can help Man create or enslave, depending on the laws, religion and customs under which they are governed.

China Prioritizes Auto Sales Over Pollution and Congestion

Caixin: Shenzhen, Guangzhou to Ease Car Ownership Restrictions
The southern megacities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen will ease up on car ownership restrictions in a bid to boost China’s flagging auto sales — one of the country’s important economic drivers.

Both cities are planning to increase the quota of new license plates given out each month, a policy that has traditionally been used to help control congestion and pollution by limiting the number of cars on the road, according to the state-owned Southern Daily (link in Chinese).

...The move comes just a month after the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China’s state planner, issued a broader policy calling for all cities that limit license plates to increase their quotas. It specifically said all such cities should issue 50% more license plates in 2019 compared with this year’s levels, and 100% more in 2020.

Chinese Think Tank Proposes Ban on Conventional Cars

The plan calls for Beijing to make the move first and lead the nation. Even if you throw out all the environmental arguments, assume the batteries and coal-fired electricity are a net negative for the environment versus gasolie powered cars, reducing oil dependency makes sense from a national security and economic perspective.

Caixin: Beijing Should Ban New Conventional Car Sales by 2030, Think Tank Says
The capital could galvanize the rest of China’s megacities by becoming the first to ban the sale of new fossil fuel-run buses, shipping vehicles and taxis in the coming years. It should then ban the sale of new conventionally powered private cars by 2030, the Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation said in a report released this week.

The report forecast that gas vehicles’ days are numbered in China, with sales expected to peak around 2025. Hybrid and pure-electric vehicles will gradually take the lead from that point on, with pure-electric models likely to make up 85% of the market by 2050. Banning new gas vehicles would speed up the process while helping to clear the capital’s air, the report said.

China Auto Emissions Standards Rise in July

Chinese auto sales have been slumping and one reason may be the rollout of stricter emissions standards.

Caixin: Stricter Vehicle Emission Standards May Spell Further Bad News for Hobbled Industry
The country will soon adopt the sixth phase of its vehicle emission standards, which China claims is even stricter than the European Union’s. Once it goes into effect, dealers will no longer be able to sell vehicles with that don’t meet the rigid requirements.

As China grew increasingly aware of pollution, the government decided in mid-2018 to move up the implementation date for the new standards in certain prominent areas including Beijing, Chengdu and south China’s Pearl River Delta. The new rules will go into effect in July 2019 – one year earlier than their previously scheduled date.
World Platinum Investment Council: China clean air, PGMs and platinum
China has some way to catch up with PGM loadings in more mature markets. The right-hand graph above shows PGM loadings per vehicle in North America, Japan and China. Several factors explain the differences including average engine size, fuel mix differences (thus excluding Europe), and, most importantly, emissions standards. Nonetheless, as emissions standards and wealth improve in China, PGM loadings should continue to approach those of more developed regions, thus providing a demand push for PGMs, including platinum, by potentially as much as a gram per vehicle.

As palladium goes further into deficit, it should tighten the platinum market. The Chinese demand trend is significant as it represents 26% of global PGM demand. Should Chinese automakers see supply risk and/or cost disadvantage in palladium, the platinum market offers ample capacity to satisfy increased PGM demand.

Updated: Immigration Destroying California's Air

Yet Baizuo demand unlimited immigration while screaming about climate change.

USA Today: Bad air days on the rise: The nation's most polluted city is ...
Since California is known for its strict environmental regulations, why are so many cities from the state typically on this list? It's because the state would be much worse off without its strict laws on tailpipe pollution and eliminating coal-fired power plants.

"California's air quality is worsening despite having the strongest environmental regulations in the nation," said John Balmes of the University of California at San Francisco at a press conference on Tuesday.

California's soaring population and topography allow air pollution to overcome the state's strict environmental laws, the lung association said. The boom in people brings with it an increase in cars and trucks on the roads, and many of those people live in valley and basins, right where pollution tends to settle.
Send in the clowns.

In case anyone thinks I'm overstating the impact of mass migration on the air quality, here's a chart showing the population growth of legal residents from this article: California’s Housing Bubble Counts on Blistering Population Growth, But it’s Fizzling

Clownifornia Will Save America From Socialism

Socialism sounds great, but fails every time. And yes, some wealthy Nordic countries, even those without massive oil revenues, can make socialism-lite work with highly productive citizens, homogeneous populations and economic policies that favor entrepreneurship. They tax labor heavily and capital lightly. Consumption is heavily taxed. Not exactly the workers paradise. For that to work in the USA, we might let the progressives set the tax rate as a percentage of GDP and then let the Mises Institute write the tax code.

When countries go full socialist, they go down the tubes. Maintaining control relies on increased repression and narrative control. If it wasn't for the capitalists, greedy people, lazy people, foreigners, whatever, then everything would be going great! As the country circles the drain, the socialists don't wake up from their stupor. It's Russiagate all the way down.

Which is why those who favor human intelligence over stupidity and freedom over slavery need examples of real-life socialism. And luckily, Clownifornia will provide America with an iron-clad argument against socialism and the Green agenda.

New Geography: CALIFORNIA’S SELF-CREATED FUTURE ENERGY CRISIS
In much of the country a powerful energy boom is providing a serious stimulus to economic growth. But in California, where fossil fuels are considered about toxic as tobacco, we are lurching toward an anticipated energy shortage that will further exacerbate the state’s already deep geographic and class divisions.

California, in a typical feat of “virtue signaling,” has committed the state to getting half of its electrical power from renewables such as wind and solar, up from 16 percent today, within the next decade. This drive has meant the rapid abandonment of electricity generated by nuclear power as well as natural, gas which together comprised nearly 70 percent of all electricity production in 2015.

...If the mayor insists on transforming Los Angeles into a “green” paradise, expect much higher prices, and greater energy instability. California is already the second most expensive state for energy in the continental U.S. Similar policies have been responsible for high energy prices, and little greenhouse gas reductions, in such diverse places as Germany and Australia.

This is occurring, remarkably enough, as our political leaders commit to forcing more Californians to electrify everything — our heating and cooling systems as well as our cars. To meet the demand generated by electric cars alone, according to one recent estimate, would require 50 percent more electricity than today. This is occurring as we are not adding capacity but stripping it away from reliable nuclear and natural gas sources.
Electric cars powered by domestic nuclear energy would collapse emissions and wipe out energy imports, while creating an entirely new industry building advanced nuclear power stations. Incentives for electric car manufacturers could accelerate the country's move away from imports. The economic benefit and environmental benefit from onshoring all of this activity would be immense. California could lead the nation into a prosperous 21st Century. Instead, it is going full retard.
Ultimately, California’s energy policies reinforce the class and geographic bias that increasingly defines our state. Firms such as Apple boast of their solar-powered offices while using servers in energy-producing states and making products in Chinese factories reliant on coal. Generally new solar facilities, located far away from the coastal enclaves that demand them, gobble up land and kill wildlife; San Bernardino County recently restricted new solar “farms” due to such environmental concerns.

Nor is this policy doing much for the climate. Increasingly almost all new greenhouse gas emission come from countries such as China and India, which seem content to continue boosting fossil fuels. We are not even out-performing other states in reducing greenhouse gases: California ranks 40th in per capita GHG reductions among the states since 2007. Our biggest energy accomplishment may be boosting the self-esteem of the ruling caste of oligarchs, the political apparat and state-funded bureaucrats.
California's emissions are rising because of runaway population growth (relatively speaking), a result of its open borders policies. The state will be a crippled disaster zone with a generation if it follows these energy, population growth and electric car policies. The only way for socialism and the Green agenda to win is to make sure Clownifornia does not stand out as an example. Progressives must consolidate power rapidly and make backwards economic police the national agenda, all while shutting down all dissent on social and alternative media. If they can't, the reality of California will be all that's needed to turn American voters off the idea of socialism.

China Reverses Reforms in Heavy Industries

Bloomberg: China's War on Pollution Fuels State Takeover of Heavy Industry
President Xi Jinping’s big push to curb pollution and excess capacity in steel and other industries is also consolidating his government’s control over them.

Just last year, the state’s share of steel capacity increased to 67 percent from 60 percent while aluminum smelting saw about an equal increase, J Capital Research Ltd. estimates. In coal, which began consolidating years earlier, the government now controls 80 percent of capacity compared with about 45 percent in 2010, according to the Hong Kong-based firm.

Better Than Tariffs: Buy Carbon Credits

If China and/or the U.S. wanted to shift production out of Europe, they could do worse than buying carbon credits.

Bloomberg: Europe's $38 Billion Carbon Market Is Finally Doing Its Job
Higher carbon prices drive up the cost of using hard coal and lignite to run power plants. It’s one of the mechanisms the 28-nation European Union is using to move industry away from the most polluting fuels and reaching the goals for curbing climate change set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

“Climate policy will drive accelerating coal phase-outs in the next few years,” said Phil MacDonald, an analyst at Sandbag, an environmental research group.

Jan Kresnik, a portfolio manager at broker Belektron, said prices of 30 euros a ton or more “could be reachable.” BNEF estimates it will reach 32 euros by 2023.

...Some of the biggest energy users remain concerned about the upward drift in prices. Steelmakers especially blame the carbon market for reducing their competitiveness. At Britain’s EEF group representing manufacturers, Roz Bulleid, who is head of climate policy, supports emissions trading but says her members are “increasingly jaded” about the impact.

“The original intention to deliver emissions reductions at least cost has been replaced by a focus on achieving a certain carbon price,” Bulleid said. “There are a number of overlapping policies in this area muddying investment signals. Overseas competitors are not facing the same policy costs.”

China Has a Garbage Bubble as Paper Prices Soar

Recyclable paper prices are soaring in China. A wild price rise has created "junk kings" in China who move piles of refuse instead of low-rated credit.

The iFeng link includes a video with some of the "junk kings" of Dalian. They talk about how some of the paper would be thrown out, but today they don't toss anything and sell it instead. Prices are moving multiple times in a single day as money rushes into the latest investment boom. The monthly income of one "junk king" has doubled from 5,000 yuan to more than 10,000 yuan.

The spark for this boom was a ban on the importation of foreign trash.

Reuters: China ban on waste imports leads to piles of paper abroad, surging prices in China
The city’s system for dealing with its paper waste has been failing since China in July imposed a ban on imports of 24 types of rubbish, as part of a campaign against “foreign garbage” and environmental pollution, including unsorted scrap paper.

As a result of the impasse, the manager of a major paper mill in southern China told Reuters the price of finished paper had doubled to 6,000 yuan ($902) per ton from 3,000 yuan as supplies of the raw material shrink.

That is hurting everyone from e-commerce sites to exporters.

Alibaba’s upcoming ”Singles’ Day online shopping festival on November 11, which posted more than 120 billion yuan ($18.1 billion) in sales last year, is heavily reliant on such packaging.
A drop in supply causes a rise in prices, but a boom is triggered by an increase in the supply of money and credit. The rally in junk is the downstream result of commodities market speculation that even government officials have blamed on excess credit.

iFeng: 废品价格大面积回升 从前的“破烂王”如今收入过万!
Li Youan Dalian scrap recycler: scrap prices are rising, including plastics, cardboard, all waste are rising. Mineral water bottle should be up over last year, rose about 30 percent. Is now selling about five to four four seven one kilogram of paper gains would be greater, under normal circumstances, paper, general paper in previous years, more than a thousand dollars a ton, this year is more than two thousand one ton of .

Scrap price hikes, so his business is extremely busy, reporters saw just a few minutes there are 56 individuals to sell scrap, but due to his busy again this year hired two people to help, but in order to increase the amount of recycling he is no longer just waiting for collection at home every afternoon, he took the initiative to the neighboring village to the acquisition of waste. In this way a month down the overall recovery of the amount, compared to the same period last year increased by about 20%, while in recent months, his monthly income has reached the million, compared to last year, an increase of nearly doubled.

It is understood that this year the overall recovery in scrap prices, domestic scrap prices in 1600 yuan / ton, up 14%, aluminum prices at around 10,500 yuan / ton, up 23%, paper prices rose the most, currently the Recycle Bin recovery of prices in the 2100 yuan / ton, up more than doubled. Prices rose sharply, driving the overall industry to pick up, "Polan Wang" re-active.
China's ban on "foreign garbage" is partly responsible, but the main culprit is the supply of money and credit racing around China's economy in search of a home as the iFeng article notes:
In fact, the fluctuation of recycling prices is inextricably linked to the entire commodity market, and its rise this year mainly due to upstream manufacturing, building materials industry increased demand, as well as major engineering and infrastructure investment to accelerate, in a rise in the price, gains in prices of waste paper can be described as ferocious.
There's only one piece of waste paper whose fundamental value is ferociously declining: the Chinese yuan.
