China Closed the Dollar Window

This thought came to me after thinking about the 1970s and closing of the gold window.

There is a very wide dichotomy between what the market thinks about Chinese economic strength and the reality on the ground.

Why does China have such strict capital controls, and can we say they have in a sense terminted convertability of yuan into dollars?
