Data from 18 listed A-share banks shows lending to developers tumbled in the first half of 2016, while lending of individual mortgages soared.
At the end of 2015 these banks had lent 4.064167 trillion yuan to the real estate industry. At the end of June 2016, the total was 4.102709 trillion yuan an increase of 38.542 billion yuan or barely 1 percent, a drop of more than 80 percent from first half 2015 lending of 240 billion yuan. In the first half of 2016, Citic Bank alone lent more than 40 billion yuan and Bank of China nearly 35 billion. Seven banks reduced lending, and another 6 banks lent around 1 billion or less.
Mortgages increased nearly 12 percent from end of 2015 levels and growth was 80 percent above first half 2015 lending.
