SCMP: Shanghai lockdowns split China’s financial hub as authorities move to control risk
For the next four days, these residents will be confined to their neighbourhoods and all public transport – including buses, metro lines, taxis and ferries, as well as privately owned vehicles – is barred from travelling between Pudong and Puxi. Some specualte China is locking down to increase pressure on Western economies, but as is the case with sanctions, it only works once. It doesn't make sense for China to destroy its export markets because there's no evidence Western government will do anything to lessen their burden on China. As long as the Baizuo stay in power, most of the West will become a suizeranty. The only exception is an imminent invasion of Taiwan, in which case those export markets could be lost anyway. Still, in that case there's still no need to lock down. The CCP's narrative on the virus has locked it into self-destructive, ineffective policies carried out solely to push a false narrative about government control over an uncontrollable virus.Deliveries and other transport essential to community needs would operate as normal, the Shanghai government said on Monday.
In the second stage to start on Friday Puxi, on the western bank of Huangpu River, will go into lockdown for four days.
